Jammu, 11th September: A Conference of Jail Superintendents of Jammubased Jails was held today on 11th September, 2019 at Jammu. The DGPPrisons, J&K, V.K. Singh, IPS, appreciated the efforts made by JailSuperintendents for maintaining security and discipline in Jails besidesimproving the vocational & educational skills of inmates. He informed thatfocus is being laid on welfare, training and development of prison staff. Theconference was attended by Satish Khandare, IPS, Inspector General of Police,Prisons, other Officers of Prison Directorate besides Jail Officers – DineshSharma, Sr.  Superintendent Central Jail Jammu,Mirza Saleem Ahmad, Superintendent District Jail Jammu, Mushtaq Ahmad Malla,Superintendent District Jail Kathua, Harish Kotwal, Superintendent District JailUdhampur, Rafiq Ahmad, Superintendent District Jail Rajouri, P.K Modi,Superintendent Sub Jail Hiranagar & Rajinder Kumar, Superintendent Sub Jail Reasi.

            The DGP Prisonsfurther highlighted that the Department is improving the interview rooms inJails by providing cabins & child friendly corners. Heinformed that the Prisons are soon going to have an inmate calling system whichwill enable the inmates to call their relatives & advocates. The facilitywill initially be introduced at Central Jails Srinagar and Kotbhalwal Jammu besidesDistrict Jail Jammu. He added that through this system inmates will be able to calltwo close relatives for 5 minute duration each on select days. The facilitywill not be available to the prisoners involved in grave offences or misconductin Jail.

 While highlighting the role of recreation inreformation of inmates, the DGP said that recreation facilities are being madeavailable in Jails. Moreover, inmates are being encouraged for participating incultural and sports activities besides vocational training.

           To commemorate the150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of Nation, acultural programme shall be conducted at the District jail Jammu by the inmateson 2nd October, 2019 evening. During the conference presentationswere made by the participating Jail Superintendents followed by an opendiscussion regarding infrastructural requirements, financial & otherissues.
